Endurance racing on the World Cup in Andorra is special due to the high altitude of the race venue at around 2000 meters above sea level. If you want to see how the altitude and the lack of oxygen affects the competitors just take a look at the race replay on the Red Bull TV. Both female and male riders were exhausted and they all needed to take couple of deep breaths before they came back to “normal mode”.
Tanja Žakelj was no exception, she’s not handling the high altitude racing anyway. She gave her best and that was good enough for 17th place, so she missed a second row start for just one place. Better start would help, but it’s a brand new race on Sunday and she can gain a lot with a good start. Good luck Tanja!
