World Cup Lenzerheide: XCO/XCC Race Report

New race of the Mercedes-Benz UCI MTB World Cup, new solid result for Tanja Žakelj. She’s leaving Swiss sports center Lenzerheide with 20th place in the Cross-Country race.

Last European round of the 2019 UCI World Cup was a real spectacle – it always is in Lenzerheide. The show started on Friday with the short track race and great performance of Tanja Žakelj. She was battling for top-15 positions throughout the race, but had to admit that others were stronger were stronger in the last meters. She was 17th, one place short of a good start position on Sunday.

XCO race in Lenzerheide is hard and technical, but great fans always help riders on their way through laps. Tanja also had support of her home fans this time around, they traveled to Val di Sole and this weekend also to Switzerland.

Tanja started in the group just behind top-20 and was in it till the end. She was changing positions with riders around her and slowly advancing towards the final 20th place. Unfortunately her legs were not as strong as they were a week ago and she didn’t gain that many places. Still a solid result and we can be happy with the weekend.

Tanja Žakelj after the race: “The pre-last race of the world cup is behind me. I wanted something more, but on the aend I’m among the top twenty and that is a solid result. I just didn’t had the right day, like I had in Val di Sole. I was fighting from start to finish, but I did couple of mistakes too much. Mistakes do happen, but today I lost a position here and there due to them. I don’t have anything to blame on myself, the result is good and I accept it. Now we’re off for the world champs and world cup finals.”

Tanja kept 21st place in the overall standings. With a good race in USA she can make it to top-20.
